I usually don't answer the phone when these scumbags call, but sometimes I'll pick up the phone after one ring and not make any noise. Usually, there is no "message," and the phone hangs up after a minute. HOWEVER, this time it was funny. I got the recording offering to lower my student loan payment (I'm 71 years old), and to push "1" for more information. I just had to do it. When the voice on the other end was obviously foreign, I asked what country she was calling from, she said, "Chicago." I told her that Chicago wasn't a country. She then hung up. I didn't know that Chicago was a suburb of Hackensack, NJ. LOL
I receive phone calls from numbers such as this one and I usually wait until I can speak with a person. Every time I get to a person and I tell them to remove my number from their calling list they hang up on me. When I call back to tell them how rude they are Verizon gives me a message that my call cannot go through. I am so tired of these callers. This number in particular was calling about my student loan...which I do not have!
That's because the number is spoofed. These creatures hide behind fake numbers. Get yourself a call blocker for your landline and download a call blocking app for your cell. You'll never be bothered by the scammers again. Here's a discussion forum on the different types of blockers:
