Great information, needless to say I got the call as well. Things like this should be investigated by the US Government. I cannot believe that someone can call identifying himself as US Gov rep and not be prosecuted or at least the line the scam is coming from not shut down !!!.
Sal, the government is aware of this situation. Unlike crimes committed within the borders of the USA, it is not as easy to resolve as many think. We are dealing with a government that is not among our best friends and instead of just law enforcement, it becomes a Government to Government thing and there is certain protocols and proprieties that must be met and mutual agreements between the governments. Many in India looks at it as a job opportunity for some instead of extortion and consider Americans are fair game.
Just got this call. He had an investigation on my home address for tax issues of 2012. Said I doubt it check with my accountant. Then he got upset and said my accountant couldn't help me. He was calling because letters had not been answered in 3 months and officers would come to my home and get me. Told him to contact my attorney. Gave him my attorney's name and number and told him that the IRS nor the Dept. of Justice contact people by phone only by mail. Asked for his name - he said Barry Williams. Asked for his agent #, he got flustered. Told him to contact my attorney and only my attorney. Had an Indian accent.
