I received several threatening phone calls from this number today. Saying there was a warrant out for my arrest and that I needed to pay $1,000 or be arrested. This is clearly a scam!!!!
I received a very disturbing call this morning from an individual who left his name on a phone message from 202 407 9031 as David Miller from the IRS. When I returned the call, he identified himself as Michael Brown, Badge number 8975321, and identified my case as 897554. He said that during an audit, a deficiency of 4,890 was noted in back taxes, and the assumption was that I had intentionally done so. I have filed my taxes through the same accountant for many years; he did not tell me what the actual problem was. He threated to contact my employees right after our telephone call, which would result in an immediate termination and the lack of ability to work for seven years. Several times I asked about the specific nature of these allegations, and he was unable to provide a response. He said that a case would be filed in court, and that I may have two options, other than the two previously mentioned. I could find an attorney to represent me in court, or I could pay the back taxes. I am not aware of any tax misrepresentations, and have faithfully filed my taxes each year. How do you suggest that I proceed. This phone call was VERY upsetting, until my partner looked up the number online and found it to be a scam. Can legal action be taken against this person so that others do not have to struggle?
