Got a phone number 202 864 17 91 call saying I owed 49805.93 from taxes due 2006 2007 a and 2011 said I received mail back in December me and my wife don't remember also receiving number from 206-201-2799also saying they are IRS did not leak case number or even how much I owe per year said all paperwork was sent to the court house in Washington DC haha joke
Received a call from Washington DC stating I had back taxes of just under $5,000 for taxes filed between 2008 to 2013 for myself and my deceased husband, they gave me a direct number to ring them back, this was 202-864-1791. I informed them he had passed away in 2003 and I had not filed in his name since, in fact in the period they stated we had been filing under my new husbands name. I actually requested an IRS audit and stated I would come to their local office with my accountant so they could show me where these back taxes were from. They told me that I could discuss this in court as they had filed a warrant for my arrest and the authorities were on their way to arrest me. This was extremely distressing but I still did not give in and told them I would go to the Police office myself right now and hung up the phone.
The Police assured me that this was a known scam and as long as I did not give any personal details I should be ok, also that no arrest warrant was in place....this was just another of the scammer's scare tactics. They said that even though the caller ID showed Washington DC it was in fact coming from scammer's abroad. They also said that the IRS would never contact anyone in this way and would, if required send mail or visit the home of people in person they needed to talk to.
The names given by these 'so called' Americans with very heavy accents were....

I got a call from them as well. I will loose drivers licence, jail time etc etc. Claimed they (IRS) notified me 7 months ago and failed to get a response so there was a court date pending.
They hung up on me once I started to ask a bunch of questions.
Of course. They want nothing but full and docile cooperation from soft targets. The moment their scam is questioned, they either hang up or fly into a profanity-laced tirade. Just hang up and block the calls.
After receive a call from this number and seeing all the other responses I sure hope the FBI is trying to catch these people! But chances are the are spoofing the number from somewhere deep in India and never get caught. For me the best thing is not to answer the phone matter of fact I only answer calls that have complete caller ID information and I know them or seem legit.
Just got a call from 202.864.1791 from dc. Said he was from the audit dept. Of the irs. His name was mathew and could barely talk english. He gave me his id number and all that. Said he was calling me because i under paid my taxes by $4985.93 for taxe year from 2008 to 2013 and wanted to help me. He transferred me to his superviser. I wanted to hear what they had to say. No one came on the phone.
