I also received this same call yesterday. Different # from prior (but similar) IRS scams, Same approach. People get much more bold if they don't have to physically steal from you in person. These folks are true trash.
Same as above. Semi-threatening voicemail (I don't answer numbers I don't recognize) about a court case and this was supposedly the second warning. Deleted the VM and blocked the number
They called me so, I called them back. Man with an Middle Eastern accent answered and asked my name, which I gave him. He put me on hold, when he came back (in about 30 seconds) he said he needed to inform me we are on a recorded Federal line, that I need a piece of paper and a pen to take his name, Officer David Brown (LOL), his badge number, 242017, and my account number CFXXXXX. Then he said he was talking to me on behalf of the Federal Bureau of the Treasury and the they had information from the IRS that I had not filed taxes in 2014 or 2015 and that I owe the IRS $5,680.00. I informed him that that was impossible as the ONLY money I made in 2014 was disability (SSI) that is NOT taxable and I made $1,844.00 that is TAXABLE for the year of 2015 beyond my disability (SSI) that is NOT taxable. And how on God's green Earth could I possibly owe the IRS $5,680 when I don't make that much in 3 years? He said that I needed to pay this right now with a credit card, I told him I have no credit card, he said, well I guess I will have to start official proceedings against because there is a Federal Warrant for your arrest for tax evasion. If you don't pay right now, I will start these proceedings and in 40 minutes, an officer will be there, at your house, to arrest you and put you in jail for 2 years. Is that what you want? I said, you have the wrong person, there are 1,156 women in the US with my name and there are 18 in my state with the same name, how do you know it is me? What is my SSN? He said, I can't tell you that over this line but we know it's you. I said well, then, come and get me, Dave! And he hung up - very irritated.
I always play along. Then they get frustrated and say....why did you waste my time....and I reply: because if I waste your time you can't be scamming anyone else!
