just got a call from a guy "Frank", asking to talk to Ms____ (my name), saying that my Windows 7 operating system has been hacked and he needed to "fix" it...Very noisy in the background....Smelling a rat I told him nobody by that name lived here...Wanted to know my name and if my computer was "on" Told him NO.....Told him I had a bad connection and I would call him.
Gave me a phone# 40-1-866-999-1487 from Salt Lake City....Called back and can't connect with this number...My caller ID shown 1-206-397-1126
I just got a call from this number which displayed the name Trikon. It seemed suspicious to me, so I didn't answer. After reading the messages here I realized I received a call claiming to be Microsoft (thought it may have been a recorded message). If I should answer the phone the next time, I'll tell them I own a Mac.
Just received a call from the 206 397-1113 telephone number with the name Trikon on caller ID. I spent 27 minutes on the call listening to them try to convince me that my computer was infected. They wanted to disinfect it (said it would take 20 to 30 minutes) and then afterward I would have to pay them $139.00 for one year of support. It was obviously a scam. I don't understand, if we can land men on the moon, why can't we keep people like this from invading our homes?
Got a call today from this number concerning wanting to access my computer because it had virus in "Windows" and the caller was calling from Windows. When I told him Windows is a product from Microsoft he started to get mad. He wasn't from Microsoft he told me. And I could barely understand him. I told him I could handle any issues myself, and hung up. Trikon was on the caller id.
This was definitely a spam caller trying to get into my computer.
No one that calls you should ever be able to get to your computer. And I have no idea how they would anyway... They would need your ISP's ok and your IP address, unless you get an email from them and open it... Don't ever do that.
This number was on my caller ID, however, the caller asked me to call him back at 210-468-0319, ext 2.
Caller said he was Frank Martin w/ the Texas Merchant's Association. He said he was the new County Rep for the Association and that he was calling regarding some new business.
My parents and then myself 10 minutes later received calls at our respective houses. An INDIAN woman with children making noise in the background called saying she was with WINDOWS and that my computer was sending error messages they have been receiving. She asked me to go to the Start menu and proceeded to direct me to allow her to conduct remote assistance.
I informed her the OPP are investigating her calls, then I hung up.
