just got a call from a guy "Frank", asking to talk to Ms____ (my name), saying that my Windows 7 operating system has been hacked and he needed to "fix" it...Very noisy in the background....Smelling a rat I told him nobody by that name lived here...Wanted to know my name and if my computer was "on" Told him NO.....Told him I had a bad connection and I would call him.
Gave me a phone# 40-1-866-999-1487 from Salt Lake City....Called back and can't connect with this number...My caller ID shown 1-206-397-1126
Received call from a lady with indian sounding voice, stating that windows was having issues with down loading virus' and such when I would log into the internet. I told her that I wasn't having issues and that if there really were a problem then I would be notified by Microsoft. She then stated that Microsoft wouldn't contact me, I replied then the manufacturer of my computer would notify me. She insisted that she was working with Microsoft and that SHE would be the one authorized to fix my computer.
I insisted she was a fraud and hung up.
I had earlier received a very similar call from an unknown name/unknown number from a man with an indian accent.
Have now gotten 2 calls from this number. First call they tried to tell me that my Windows computer was reporting problems to them and they would be happy to help walk me through downloading and fixing this virus. When I told him that I didn't have a Windows computer he didn't seem to understand, I told him again that I don't have a Windows computer and he hang up.
Second time he called with the same thing I told him that I had a Mac and again he just didn't seem to get what I was saying.
Next time I'm going to ask him what the IP address is of the computer he is calling about, since we have 7 computers in this house and they are all on OUR network WITH OUR FIRE WALL. hehehehehe
Same thing as above--sounded like a lady from India/Pakistan. Claimed I had "malware" on my machine. Explained that I use Macs and work extensively with our IT department and tech support. They hung up.
Same as above... "You must get to your computer and turn it on so I........" Absolutely not. I called Microsoft and reported the number. Beyond that, I couldn't understand the woman so I hung up before she could!!
