Don't you know? ... "Political Surveys" are exempt from the DNC list!
ANYONE can call your number by just saying they want you to answer a few of their survey questions first. THEN they ask for your credit card numbers and any other information they can con you into giving them.
They wanted me to do a political survey and as a reward I would get tickets for a free cruise, "so fees will apply." I chose to be removed from there calling list, hopefully it works.
i just called 206.496.0484 and there was a recording saying that they called me to participate in a political survey and that the time to respond had expired.
it gave me the option to remove my number from future calls by pressing "1" so i did.
I called the number back and got a recording that told me I was called to participate in a survey but that the survey time had expired (I called back within 3 minutes of their initial call). Then it said if I don't want to participate in any future surveys to press 1. I did and the recording said my number would be removed from their call list. So, we'll see.
The call starts off as a political survey. I completed it out of curiosity, and waited for the "pitch." I answered 3 questions, then hit "1" to talk to a rep about my "free" cruise. I got Greg Allen, complete with corporate ID #, from Carribean Cruise Line. You have to be REAL careful here. There is a website, all with VERY generic pictures, and NO PHONE NUMBER to call, book, etc. I think these guys have gotten so sophisticated, they've even got the fake site up in case you want to google them while you're on the phone. All they want is your credit card # for "port taxes and fees." When I told them I wouldn't make ANY financial commitment without final travel arrangements, that they could send me a voucher for my free travel in the mail, and that I would pay my taxes when I booked, the call was abruptly over...shocker.
