Download the "Disconnect Ring Tone" and play it whenever you get a call such as this. Note there is a pause between your picking up your phone before someone answers. This is the computer determining whether it has reached a valid number. If you play the disconnect tone, the computer automatically removes you from their calling directory.
206 496 0985 This is a most annoying & alarming scam - touting themselves as the FBI.
Being on the "do not call registry" does not work!
I heard something about if you are called - that you can request a fee for being disturbed?
I sure wish this were true... I would be wealthy by now, with all these ****** calls.
I fear for the elderly falling for this scam...
Glad to say, even though I am way up there in years, you have to be up really early to scam this old gal... I've heard it all and nothing surprises me.
Be aware of the new scam - where a number shows up on caller ID - but it often it is not from the person/company that owns that number.
You can actually rent equipment to accomplish this chicanery.
YES you can get a fee for being called. Basically the law is pretty clear IF you are on the do not call list and you are called more than once you can sue for $500 per violation in conciliation court. BUT you have to prove you were called (picture of caller ID should work) and PROVE you are on the do not call list (print out from their website should work) and then you have to pay to file in conciliation court (usually around $50-$80 depending on the state) and then serve the offending party and then show up for court and present your case. Then after all that when you win you still have to fight to get paid....so yes technically there is a fine but it's a lot of work and in the end you might get nothing.
I like how the do not call list fines all these companies (remember the Dish Network settlement for tens of millions) and what did the consumer get? Like $20....what a joke!
