Call from a gentleman with a strong accent claiming to be from daipers.com (I guess people got savvy to the fake amazon.com calls...). He used my first name and told me someone was trying to buy giftcards with a credit card ending in xxxx. I recognized the last four digits as a card I use frequently. He wanted me to give him the rest of the credit card number to verify it was mine so he could cancel the 'fraudulent' charges. I told him I didn't have the card on me, but to go ahead and cancel the charges anyway. Then immediately called my credit card company and told them the whole story. In the meantime a flurry of fraudulent charges appeared on my credit card.
If this number calls you, even if you do not give them any information, contact your credit card company IMMEDIATELY.
Got a call today 1-28-16 from this number. Woman said from Amazon calling about my Chase card. Told her I have credit cards I use with my account but not a Chase card.
Okay, so if anyone read this far into the thread then you're probably as confused as I was. I got two calls this morning and looked up the number and found this post. Now, it doesn't make any sense because some people swear it's a scam and others promise that it's actually amazon. So what is the deal???
Well, I just made a large purchase on behalf of my boyfriend and instantly got this call afterward. Because I didn't recognize the number, I didn't answer and immediately looked it up. Then I found this post and was seriously worried that I was being scammed. Then I tried to log onto my amazon account and I was locked out (even after changing my password). So, I called amazon, and they claimed that they had no record of my earlier purchase (all in the same day). I even gave the order number and they couldn't find anything. I asked if I should place the order again and the Amazon rep said yes, and that the issue might be because I ordered from a third party (not amazon) and the company was worried that my card was fraudulent.
So, I changed my password, again. After talking to the rep, this worked. I placed my order, again. (nothing happened to my bank account after the first order and there was no 1$ charge). And once again I got a call from the same number. This time I answered, being aware that I should absolutely NOT give out any personal information and it was a woman that clearly spoke English (did not sound foreign at all) and simply asked if I made a charge on Amazon for the exact amount that I had. I confirmed that I had made a large process and she said okay, because if not I can cancel it. I assured her that it was fine and now my order is processing and I have access to my account.
What I think is actually happening is that someone else (not this number) IS making fraudulent charges and this is a number that calls to verify any suspicious activity. So, yes, it's possible that some accounts were hacked, but not by the representative on the other line. Also, I suppose it's possible that scammers have a way to copy the number so it appears as if amazon is calling to verify a purchase.
Long story short, if you recently made a large purchase on Amazon, answer it. If not, check you bank statements immediately and change your Amazon password.
I received 2 phone calls from this number, back to back. I did not answer. I had ordered from Amazon yesterday. However I already have e-mails from them with shipping dates for the item and I have checked my credit card and there are no fraudulent charges, only the charge for the item that I ordered. No intention of answering any unknown # phone calls.
I got 2 calls from this number. I ignored the first one and answered the second. I hung up in a man with a heavy indian accent. I looked up the number and found this forum. I called Amazon and they told me that this number is not from Amazon and to BLOCK the number. Amazon said they if there was a fraud alert on my account they would have sent an email. I also have no pending charges or anything in my bank account thank God. Be careful everyone and IGNORE this number!
