I received a call from this number claiming they were from the IRS. I called gave them the number in which they left a message on and then they hung up. I called back and they asked me the same question. Scary, freaked me out. Not sure how to report these scam artists.
Recieved this call twice today. I saw where someone said they get around the "No-Call List" by calling AT&T customers. I am NOT an AT&T customer and yet I have still gotten the call. Worse is I have already told them once, and my daughter twice, to remove me from there list and DO NOT CALL AGAIN! Yet still they come. I, however, do not get AT&T showing on my caller ID, just San Antonio, TX.
They called to say they had my computer SID# and they were from Microsoft and wanted to help me get rid of malicious software. I asked for a number to call them back on to verify they were who they claimed to be and found all these complaints. 6/14/2013
Caller: Claimed to be Microsoft
Call Type: Telemarketer
I received the same call today. The man had such a strong Indian accent he was hard to understand. He claimed that he was from Microsoft and said that my computer was loaded with malicious viruses. I told him that my computer with the Microsoft OS hasn't been used for a month or more. He asked me to turn it on and he would show me the problems. I didn't do it. I asked him where he was and he said Austin Texas. I asked him his name and he said Austin Smith. Later he repeated his name for me and I realized that he was trying to say "Houston" but his accent was so bad that I couldn't tell it. The phone number is from the San Antonio area code, not Houston. I said that he sounded more like he might be in India.
Anyway, I didn't turn on my IBM compatible computer for him. I have three Apple computers and never had a virus problem. Not sure what his game was, but it sounded like there must be a scam in there somewhere!
Call that number and ask to talk to Austin Smith! If you believe his name is Austin Smith, good luck...
