Just got the call from the same number. I am on the Do Not Call list. Isn't there something we can do about this practice? I'm going to report the number, but I doubt anything will be done. I feel sorry for the people who will fall for this.
Caller from 212-438-7895 had a heavy South Asian accent of a young man. He knew my ZIP code, and gave me a story about hackers in the area, and that I should get off the internet right away. He said he was from Arjunaa Internet Security, and spelled the URL, http://www.arjunaainternetsecurity.com/, when I asked his affiliation. That company lists an address of a Registered Office Suite# 17/H/9, Balai Singhi Lane, Kolkata-700 009, and a Corporate Office in the Omega Building, First Floor, Bengal Intelligent Park, Salt Lake, Electronics Complex, Kolkata-700091. Well, Kolkata sounds like Calcutta, so why would they be calling someone, not their client, in the US?. I was pretty suspicious all along but I played him along not obeying his instructions to run a file called "temp".
[***] called stating my comp was infected. Stated I needed to open run and type prefetch folder and asked if I knew what was contained in that folder. Then stated he was with some legionarie company out to stop hackers lol or something on that line. Was very hard to understand but my rebutle was that I use a VPN line with 128 bit encryption and that meant I couldnt be hacked lol. He then hung up on me. O yeah I also had to explain what VPN meant obvisouly a scam of some sort should have played along with him for a while to hear some of his BS. The number came up on my caller ID as MCGRAW HILL COM 212-438-7895 BEWARE of this Iam sure its a scam of some sort. Think about it why would some guy in India want to call you for free and save your computer.
