They bombarded my cell phone with recorded messages. Not knowing who they were, I made the mistake of calling them back with my request to take my number out of their database the first couple of times. After five calls over several days, I came to the realization that they don't care. My lawyer friend suggested that I write them a letter, with copies to the Pennsylvania State Attorney General, the attorney general of my state, and the Federal Trade Commission. In my letter, I stated that I am not the person they are looking for and I do not have delinquent debts. I did just that. If they don't stop, they will be violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If "unnamed" is reading this, we don't let scumbags like you get away with such despicable practices. We will expose you (as we are posting our experiences in this forum) and report you to the FTC. My lawyer friend also said that you people don't use your real names when you conduct business, which suggests to me that you are doing something illegal. I believe that the majority of people (such as myself) whom you harass are innocent. Your postings seem to ask for our understanding, or perhaps our sympathy. You must have a deranged mind to do what you do, so you are not getting any sympathy from me.
I got Academy to stop calling my cell phone in April 2008. However, the calls resumed in September 2008. Now I have filed a lawsuit against Academy. Once again, Academy has stopped calling. I made a statement to these scumbags that I am not the debtor and that I don't have any information about the debtor. Apparently, they are just too dumb to believe me.
I sued Academy, but they proposed to settle out of court. I have agreed to the terms of the settlement, but I will not hesitate to sue them again if they call my number again.
