Caller with middle east accent claimed our PC contacted them (Microsoft certified technicians) and they would help us remove a serious virus from our PC. He put a "supervisor" on who started to ask questions about our PC and then directed us to some b.s. website that would scan our system and give them remote access so they could "help" us. We then ended the call and started this search for the phone #. I see we are not the only ones. (Of note: our called ID has shown this phone # several times over the last couple of days)
He tried to get remote access on my pc. Said my ip address was sending bad viruses. I told him I would reinstall windows and he asked why would you spend money when I could help you now . Claimed to be w Microsoft
Caller with heavy accent claimed to be calling from Microsoft ,said my computer had down loaded a bad file an d he would me fix it.Said he was in Houston Texas;.Heavy East Indian accent, i asked hem to put some on who could English, he put on his supervisor , who could speak no better, wanted me to run some inputs to my computer ,,, i refused, we had a lot of discussion and he said some one would call tomorrow who could speak better English, so i did a reverse look up of phone number, glad i did
I had my computer professionaly rebuilt to get rid of McCAffry's obnoxious and persistent pop ups..less than an hour later I received a call from THAT SAME.. NUMBER (217) 636-3335!!! The caller who had a heavy Indian accent identified himself as a MICROSOFT TECHNICIAN ...to tell me that the software installed in the computer had several hundred "harmful" things that WILL destroy my computer but that he was sent to "FIX THEM" by Microsoft...I HUNG UP ON HIM !!!!! and reported it to the FTC and the Attorney General Consumers Affair division ...who said that there were numerous complaints and they are investigating BOTH entities...Please do the same to help put a STOP to these SCAM tactics !!
I have been getting calls from that number (217) 636-3335 also. I finally answered my cell phone and had the exact same thing happen. He was not understandable much from the accent but insisted he had my computer registration # and I had a bad virus. He said he was from Microsoft. I said "I do not believe you" and said I am on the "do not call list". That did not seem to phase him from talking and threatened to shut down my internet (LOL). I said I know I do not have a virus. He said he was going to send me an e-mail. I did not give him that info either; and of course, there was NO e-mail. I did report him to the FTC.
