Thick accent caller by name of "Tom Wilson". Called to say my computer had been infected with a virus. Gave me this number to call back and they would remove the virus. According to a previous post, it seems like he works for PC Doctor. I had that on my PC when I recently had to restore my computer to factory default and chose not to reinstall that software (malware?). Could it be they were getting info from my PC and when I did the "restore" they stopped getting the info? Don't know, but I do know they won't be getting anymore info.
Thats weird! I didn't renew Mcaffee a few days ago, and we just started getting these calls also. It has to be connected. I had the same problem as everyone else. Waiting for them to call back tonight and I'll write down the number they give you to call them on. I'll tell him I want to test it first, then we'll see. I'd love to chew him out.
Have received several calls from this number on caller ID. Today I just felt like answering it to see what it was all about. Exactly same scenario as the previous posts. Thick accent. Told me my computer will blow up. That my IP address notified them (Microsoft, yeah sure), that there is a virus and they want to remotely help me fix it. I asked what they are selling - 3 times! - and he/she said not selling anything. I said "so you're calling me from Microsoft headquarters" and he/she said Yes, in TX. So I said, well that's weird because the caller ID says IL. I had enough "fun" with her/him and hung up.
