Received a similar call from a man with a middle east accent that my computer was hacked and that a Microsoft technician would help me fix the problem. I told them I had to leave right now. They said they would call back at 10 AM. I was very suspicious about this call. I'm glad I checked out this site. I was told by a friend that Microsoft doesn't usually call you on the phone.
The DNC list DOES work! Once you are on the list, when scammers, phishers or unsolicited companies / people call, file a complaint on the DNC website. Takes less than 3 minutes. I have been on the DNC list since the beginning, and every time I report these numbers, in a very short time, they are not calling my number any longer. The list only works if you report violators. No, I do not work for the government or the Do Not Call list. I use the information I find on this website to assist me in reporting unwanted and unsolicited calls. Scammers, phishers and con artists change numbers faster then they change underwear. It's up to those of us on the DNC list to report violators so they can be stopped from calling YOU any more.
Just received a call today, 8/21/13, Thick accent, same scenario. The first call I have ever received. Told him I didn't believe him and wasn't interested in anything he was offering and hung up on him.
I had the same call today. Called from an Illinois number (217-636-3335) and said he was from Texas (214-447-7707). Told me that he was from Microsoft and was getting alerts that I had downloaded bad files on my computer. I asked him which computer since I have four. He asked if i had a laptop and when I said I did he said it was the laptop (I have not used my own laptop in over two years and only my company laptop). I asked him when the files were downloaded and he could not tell me but he could show me where on my computer. I told him I thought the call was [***] and that he needed to prove to me that he was legitimate. He said his name was Dave Fernandez and his Microsoft ID was MSCT7788. He also had a heavy accent (either India or middle east). What concerns me is that he had an address of mine from 15 years ago (I have no current computers registered to that address) but could this be the start of some type of greater identity theft? Or is it easy to obtain old addresses with cellphone numbers?
