We have great credit, thankfully, but somehow my cell number became the target for collecting on a student loan. There were tons of calls (I never answered thanks to these websites) and then peace until today this number showed up. So not sure how my number got on their lists, I haven't had a student loan since 1983, and it was paid up long ago. Bless you all for reporting on these numbers.
We have gotten phone calls from Tate & Kerlin before, but we got a call from this phone number today. On our Call ID it says Mitchell SD, and they left a message to call them back at some 1-800 number. The lady that left the message made it sound like she was a friend that I had ignored for 10 years, but she had been trying to keep in touch.
Tate & Kirlin called my phone number looking for a person who doesn't live at my address. The number they called has never belonged to the person they're trying to reach. All of my bills are paid on time. So not everyone is whining about paying bills. I've had several bill collectors call my number looking for the same person. They apparently are checking for any phone number associated with the address. They admit that they do not check to see to whom the phone number is registered. The only go by address. I hope you have to deal with this type of harrassment, then see how you like trying to get them to stop calling.
If they call you after you have said that you are not the person they are looking for, you may be able to sue them for cash and damages, if they keep calling. Start recording these calls, if legal in your state. I keep a tape recorder by my phone and I am now what they call a "hostile litigant", because I would love to make these people pay for the abuse they heap on widows and others who are not wise to their aggressive and deceptive methods. I've NEVER missed paying a debt in my life yet they call and call and call, phishing to get someone, anyone, whom they can attach the debt to, to pay up. I've been screamed at, called names, threatened, and it's so stupid because they are looking for someone, or they are committing outright fraud. Sometimes they are looking for someone with my address. Sometimes for people with my phone number. Sometimes it's for people with my same name or a name similar to mine. They will call and call because some skiptracer somewhere has wrongly attached my name to someone else's debt. FYI, the debt collection industry has pretty much turned into a criminal enterprise. I have no experience with Tate and Kirlin, but they are starting to call my number now. I ignoring it for now. If they call again, I'll probably answer and explain they they have the the wrong number. I'll also begin the recording and documentation process.
