Got a call from them for the past 3 days. Called it back once, they won't tell you who is suing you. They give you 3 options, pay off your debt, do a monthly payment which is more or go to court. It's a scam.
Called the number back and plainly stated, "I want my number removed from your call list.", and she said, "We're looking for Marlene Wright. Do you know her?" - I said, "No" and she said they'd remove me. This sorta [***] should be illegal.
ID themselves as the "Mediation Division". Lady I talked to would not give me
any more information. Hung up on me when I asked her what company they
represent. Clearly some sort of debt scammer. Other sites make them out as
pretending to be some government agency or another.
The term "mediation" is just scammer double-talk for debt collector. Ignore and
block any calls form this number or anything that's calling itself "mediation division"
or has the word mediation in it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking), the only thing they understand.
I got a call today from this number, they didn't say if they were a debt collector or anything. They just left a message stating they were looking for (blank) and that I'm being investigating for some criminal matters and that they need to ask me a few questions and that they are with (blank) and that they need me to call them back right away with case number (blank) and that this was my last chance and that if I fail to comply with them, then they will send the of the police force to my home or current employment. They also stated I was being served and sued for the max dollar amount of (blank) and all paperwork from the Wyoming area will be forwarded to my county (blank).
Got a call from these people telling me that i was going to be served and that they were coming to my home and work. I called the police and was told that it IS a SCAM. Do NOT give them any information.
