Definitely the same group. Corporate Acquisitions from Colorado. They use GotVMail.com which provides local numbers around the country. Makes them look like they are from Western Mass. Call the number and you will get a voice message and a long list of voice mail boxes for all the people at Corporate Acquisitions.
Just received a call from the notorious Rick Webber from Corporate Acquisitions Group with a Chicago number which we all know by heart now...even the ext. 701. The bogus giveaway was that the call came in at 8:45 on a Friday evening. And the super funny giveaway was that the business that I've run for 32 years is currently (and purposefully) netting such a small amount that only a fly would be interested in it. Rick, time to hide.
Came in 8:32 PM Saturday night. The same recorded message everyone else has received. Naturally I was suspicious; and Googled the phone number. My guess was that it was a scam that would request an upfront fee for some reason. That is always how these scams work: there is something you will get if only you pay a processing fee, or study fee, or shipping fee or whatever. It doesn't matter if the scam is from West Africa or Nevada or Florida (or Colorado), the basic form is the same.
If someone is contacting you out of the blue by phone or email and is offering you something valuable, it's going to turn out to be bogus. Small businesses are especially vulnerable because we have to take enquirers seriously at first in case they are a potential customer.
We all need to be careful and suspicious these days.
Got a call this evening on my home phone from 312-242-3640. Reported it to donotcall.gov AND then set the advanced forwarding so that if he calls again, it will ring at the FTC complaint line.
They left a message about wanting to buy my business. I am a sole proprietor engineering consultant with no employees. There is nothing to buy other than my skills.
