I've had these jerks harassing me for years. Often the recording says "Rachel from CardServices", with an offer to lower credit card rates, yada yada. I don't even OWN a credit card! If you say that, ask to be taken off their calling list, say you're on the Federal "no call" list, or ask for a supervisor, you're promptly hung up on. And, as others say, if you miss the call and call back to see who it is (they use tons of different numbers), it's either the "Rachel" message or one from Verizon saying the wireless number is changed or disconnected. I sleep days, not nights, so the calls are DOUBLY distressing as anyone who knows me would only call me during the day in an emergency, knowing I work nights. I've called the Better Business Bureau, and the woman I spoke to said that they've had these people "on their books" for years. She said I could start logging the calls and make a report, but it seems to be a useless effort. Frightening--the scam must get a lot of money from people to be so prevalent and around for so long......
They call from different #'s every day. I'm convinced there is nothing that can be done about it. The REAL issue is that people are so gullible they actually give these clowns their CC # and get scammed. If no one would get sucked into the scam, they would give up. Sometimes I ask for a live person and give them a stream of obscenities. Feels good.
I agree with most of these complaints - I get calls like this each day of the week, any time of day, from different "originating" numbers. Whoever this is, they're spoofing their calls, but what I can't figure out is what they're really after. I've read that people call back, and get no answer, or the phone is disconnected, or some other inane result. I've read that people answer, but typically no one has managed to keep them on the line long enough to find out what they want. I've read that people press "3", or actually answer the phone and TELL them to stop calling, but nothing works. I'm also on the national do not call registry, which I'm beginning to think is either overwhelmed or a complete waste of time. I'll keep trying tho - I have zero interest rate, zero.
I've pressed 3 in the past to be removed from the call list--that didn't work. This time I pressed 1 to ask a live person to be removed from call list. She told me to "wash my [***]."
