Actually you can file harrassment charges and file a restraining order against them "if" you have answered thier call, told them do not call back and they continue to call. Just jot down the dates and times, then initial each notation, take it to the court house when you file the complaint.
If they are a collection agency and hold a legit debt of yours in thier office, still you can stop them from contacting you "if" 1) you verbally tell them to "cease & disist" and better to back up by 2) in writing demand the same, and be sure to inlclude cease & disist by telephone, mail, in person and otherwise.
If you don't owe the debt, you have 30 days to notify that office in writing that you "dispute" the debt, mail it and send registered to prove they got it. Once you legally dispute a debt, it is in thier lap to prove you do owe it.
Once it is proven you do not owe it, you have to notify all 3 credit reporting agencies in writing to have it removed from your credit history. If you don't, it will remain. though the credit collector agency should notify the credit bureaus they most often do not bother, if they can't make a commission off your debt they will not expend any further time on it.
Also so very weary and tired of receiving these calls. You would think if no one answers by the third or so time that no one may ever answer. They should use their perseverance elsewhere on something more constructive - like finding the cure for cancer.
I receive these calls daily from 2 or three different numbers. I have been pushing 3 but isn't working so the last couple of times I've pushed 1 to tell them to please take me off of their call list. Today a man answered and asked if I was calling about a low interest credit card. I told him that I had pushed 3 many times and was still receiving calls and wanted to be removed from their call list. His reply was "Oh you people are always wanting something aren't you? Always complaining." I was so MAD! As I was answering him I realized he had hung up on me! I called the number back and got a recording that it was a Verizon number that was no longer in service. Funny it worked when they called me! 407-429-9999/406-720-2099/971-217-9515 all the same thing.
It is clear these are just scammers spoofing the caller ID number. On phoning this number, I received a recording stating that the Verizon wireless number is no longer in service.
DO NOT press 1 or 3 or anything during these incoming calls. This verifies to the scammers that it is an active number and they will continue to call you. They will also sell your number to other scammers. Responding in any way might ring into a phone bank to get you to a live person, but they are led to believe you called them. They then claim that your have expressed interest in their operation and you're solidly in their list of people to call back.
This number keeps calling our house. My teenage daughter was home today when they called. They screamed into our voice mail yelling HELLO three or four times and then hanging up as our voice mail was saying we weren't home so when the answering machine did pick up they were already gone. This has happened more than once and I'm tired of it. They scared her half to death.
