my mother received the same message from "Revenue Canada" and called to answer to a "mr. adam spencer" (his assistants are "ray" and "anna"). he told my mom to send a money order of 7500 dollars through walmart or a western union (which is very sketchy) or she would be arrested. he told her not to tell anyone, and if the bank asks why you need the money to say its a family emergency. it seems that their new number is 1(343) 885 7631(which is the ottawa area code). they are very convincing and will even give you id numbers, rankings, and an office location. we went to the police and there have even been reports of these people threatening to deport immigrants (who dont know any better) if they dont pay right away. i hope this helps.
Just spent 20 minutes on the line with this guy. Originally he pulled me in, as I was really freaked out because he said I was going to be arrested within the hour and would spend 7 days in jail and asked if I had a lawyer. He also said they called me before, and tried on 2 occasions to deliver documents to my home so now it was too late for him to do anything for me, that my bank account, debit and credit cards had all been seized. My house, drivers license and passport and everything in my name would be seized. He put me through to Adam Spencer the head of restitution department who told me he realized I wasn't a bad person and that he believed me when I said I didn't know anything about this. He told me I shouldn't have called from my employers landline, and he called me back on my cell phone. He said he removed the holds on my bank account and I needed to go to the bank and withdraw $4256 and not tell the cashier that it was for CRA, but only tell them it was for a family emergency. He said he'd stay on the line with me until I got the money. I had one of my co-workers pretend to be my spouse who was an RCMP officer, and when he was asked some very pointed questions, he became very rude and said my "spouse" wasn't a very professional RCMP officer, started slinging profanities and then hung up. When he called my cell he called from 1-800-667-0999. I called that number and the recording is very convincing like it actually is the CRA. I also called the police to report the incident. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE! The CRA will never randomly send the police to arrest you, but these guys are very convincing and can pressure you into believing that the only way to avoid being arrested is to pay the money now. While they are ripping you off, they come across as genuine, making you believe that they have your best interests at heart and want to help you.
Another call from this number today
. That makes 3 this week. Using a recorded voice so no accent can be detected. CRA coming after me if I don't call back etc. It gets tiring.
I live in Toronto and there was a message left on my land line. It was an automated female voice (no accent) claiming she was Officer Nikki Johnson and her hotline was 415 234 0459. She said not to disregard the message or legal action will be taken. The funny part is she said at the end of the message "good bye and take care"???? That is a red flag right there! I knew it was a scam and I called the number back and the call didn't go through - what a surprise!
Received a threatening call from 415-234-0459 with very similar details to those in "Threatening call"'s posting. Claimed almost same things and that he was from CRA and I would be arrested within two hours----It is frightening at the time--- the real CRA would not act this way. Hope this adds to the list to help people not to be alarmed.
We didn't take the call but it was similar in nature to a call my Aunt in SF received from someone purporting to be from the IRS. Wish I had taken it--I would have screamed in the guy's ear till he hung up!
