Got the same call from This so called "tax litigation dept". Guy with an East Indian accent. It's a SCAM. The IRS will never call you. They will send you a letter if there is an issue. I was tempted to call back and harass them.
Mine was on my landline voicemail, and it addressed me by my full name. . My call was from a woman, heavy Middle Eastern Indian accent, wavering voice from very low to loud, broken English. Only understood a couple of things she said: Law suit filed, needed immediate call back, gave this phone number and a reference number. And then finally said something about Income Taxes. Stupid me, I tried calling the number and got some kind of error message, also no understandable! They need to be hung!
Was contacted by someone with a Heavy Eastern Accent asking for my mother by name. My mother had a default judgement against her after my father passed. The IRS has never pursued her because she was an innocent spouse (although they didn't consider one before the judgement). Somehow these scammers know who to call and scam. After he asked if he could speak to my mother I just said, "probably not.. who is calling?" He said his name was Harry Jacob! LOL What a retarded name! I then asked what it was regarding and he said he was calling from the IRS litigation dept. He scared me because of the history we had... He had me write down a phone number for Martin Carter and a reference number. I said, "You do know that my mother is quite elderly don't you?" He responded coldly, "SO." Just like an IRS [***] hole. I am extremely grateful for this site. Now I know he is just a f@*(&$ [***].
Got a call from Jay Adams with a heavy Indiana accent at this same number. Gave me a case number and said to call him back. After reading all of these posts, which was helpful, I did not call him back. Thanks everyone for posting!
A person named Alex Watson called and said calling from IRS. A minute he called I new it is bogus call, sinc IRS never call you for such thing. IRS send mail. I started asking question like which year tax due etc.. and he said he do not know. I then raised my voice (since I knew it was bogus IRS call). He finally hangup.
