Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.
I got the same message. I called the attorney general's office here in Baltimore, MD. The woman assured me it was a scam. She referred me to report it to the FTC. Also got the same thick accent. I yelled at the guy and told him I couldn't understand him. Next time I'll call him some nasty names and be really happy about it.
Just to clarify my message above- The thick accent was not the FTC, but the a-hole on the phone.
What can be done about this??? At least those of us who have posted comments here are smart enough to figure out it was a scam, but how about the innocent elderly who don't know better?? Actually the poor elderly wouldn't be able to understand them, or better yet, even hear them. :))
Received this call from 415-251-8890 and let it go to my answering machine. Somewhat robotic voice, poorly produced implying that I was in trouble with the IRS. Requested that I or my attorney call back to avoid any prosecution. Ya right, like I am going to call them back.
This phone number has called me six times today and the man has even threatened that I'm going to go to jail for two years is there way we can block this idiot from calling us
I had a few messages on my answering machine from these whack jobs. Then tonight I got another call same recorded message. I will definitely report it but I'm not sure what good it will do. People like this never seem to get caught and usually they are out of US jurisdiction. I hope no one falls for this scam. Several people have said it was a collection tactic from a collections but I don't think so. I have no outstanding debt and I'm sure many have posted here don't either . This is just pure scam to see what they can get from anyone not informed enough to fall for it.
