Steve,
They're all correct. It is from Craigslist, I'll tell you exactly what happened.
C-list changed their policies on posting multiple ads from the same account.
Many power users who post 100+ ads a day therefore must have multiple accts.
Now C.list requires each account to be phone verified.
Meaning you need a verification # sent by c.list to your phone to activate each acct.
Google: 'Craigslist PVA's' see what I mean
You'll see dedicated websites selling PVA's for $6-$13 each.
C-list says 1 posting per acct per 48 hrs, and no cross posting to multiple cities.
So imagine those power users need lot of phone #'s for cheap,
and this verification # he was hoping you'd pass along to him.
Power users even change their IP address, use proxies, to get around the rules.
I own tobacco store & I Got call from 415-366-0260 & they said that they are calling from Philli morris & they have Promotion gift for me that is IPHONE. asked me for the cell phone to get code # & will call me rigt back to get that # & after that he told me you will get delivery tomorrow. I am a manager of restaurant. He told me he is state health department. need coming for inspection tomorrow at 11:00 am. He ask me for cell phone number for he can reach me.
happened to me today too. This guy told me he is from state health department, and like yours, need to come for inspection tomorrow at 11. He didn't ask for my cell phone number, but told me his name is Mike Rolande. Then, he said that there will be a call me after he hang up, an I need to write down the number and give it to him. I didn't write down anything because I got a bad feeling about this whole event. Few minutes after, he called back and asked for the code. I didn't have it and told him to give me the his contact info. He didn't sound happy so I hanged up the phone. Then he called back and cursed our answering lady with f words and the B words.
Got a number of phone calls from that number. Always had verification codes and said its from craigslist.com. This was followed by another call from a guy named Rohan who asked the numbers. I said the numbers to him and he asked me if I had different phone numbers so that he can send other verification codes on them. He called saying that he was calling from texaco company as I own a Texaco gas station and that they will send me tshirts, Iphone, camera and laptop. It all lasted close to 3 hours and he said someone called David will come to give me that stuff. I am worried if he will access something to my personal information. I havent given any of my personal info accept my name. But please help if anybody has any other information for the same scam.
