I got a call from Stephanie, saying if we didn't get $3000 into the "IRS account" by 2:00pm my husband would be arrested and in jail for 12 months with no opportunity for getting out or getting a lawyer. They wanted me to get cash, go to Western Union and call her back. She would then give me instructions on how to send the money in correctly.
Scared me to death. I called the IRS, they said that it is a scam.
This is a scam. There is no group within the IRS called IRS INVESTIGATIONS. There are simply trying to intimidate people into sending a quick payment. The IRS does not send state or local police officers to arrest people. If you receive a call from this individual call your local IRS office with as much detail as you can.
I got this phone call (message on my machine) from a man saying that he was from the IRS and that we should not try to avoid paying him or calling him back because our back taxes were serious and we would go to jail! Hahaha... my husband just paid off (through true legal procedures) 10 years of back taxes in excess of $20,000.00 to the IRS. They were persistent, but kind and never threatened to send him to jail but encouraged him to keep working since that was the way they would be repaid! This is a total scam! The IRS will contact you with documents, that are certified letters you must sign for so they can have proof you received them. No one will call you, they send you documents that explain how long YOU have to call THEM! Being free and clear of the IRS we thought nothing of this call except scam, but it infuriates me that innocent and elderly people are taken in by these devils! Beware of this scam!!
This is a scam the IRS would not do that please take the time to report them we did we saved the messages so if they catch the scammers they can and will be arrested I just hope no one falls for this scam
Received calls to both me and my husband regarding time sensitive threat to pay taxes to IRS.
The so called agent sounded like he was from India, Pakistani and unintelligible. Called back to inquire and was irate and the idiot hung up on me. IRATE from Calif.I paid my D... Taxes!!!
