I got a call from a lady last name brown stating I owed $4995.00 and would be arrested if not paid within
2 hours a warrant would be issued for my arrest. tried to call IRS but they were shut down.
I got a message from a person with a very strong accent. I could barely understand what he/she said - something about IRS investigation, I owed $3000.... I called back this number and a man answered "IRS Fraud Dept" I told him about the message and asked who he was looking for. He gave me some name and told him he had the wrong number, he immediately hung up.
They keep calling and saying they are from the IRS. They even called when the shutdown happened from a different number. Now they are using this one and have gotten even more aggressive and threatening. It is ridiculous but I am sure it is working for them. They tell you that you have a discrepancy on your tax return and that you are short on payment.
I just so happen to know that I am not and have an attorney on file to speak for me. There was no reason for them to call me.
I've had calls 2 times today from this phone number. I never answer calls I don't recognize so I let it go to my answering machine. It was a man with a very heavy accent telling me he was with the IRS Internal Revenue Service (as if I don't know what IRS stands for) to have my attorney or me call about a discrepancy with my taxes. He said not to ignore this call because it is important. I immediately blew him off because my taxes are always filed by professionals. The second time when his call went to my machine he didn't leave a message. IRS - NO WAY. I'm amazed at how many others have gotten calls from this number.
The caller, whose first language is obviously Hindi, used the name Wayne Smith for me.
This is an OBVIOUS scam. The IRS is never going to call you on the phone. You'll get proper, official documents in the mail. More importantly, the IRS would NEVER ask that you pay money right away, especially by Western Union! Come on! If you actually owe money to the IRS they'll send you clear reasons, provide options for disputing it, and allow a reasonable amount of time for you to make the payment, probably at least six weeks. Whenever you get any kind of call like this always ask the caller for company, name, address, and phone number. Always research the caller first.
