Male with heavy accent called me this morning saying he was from Microsoft and needed to help me with my computer because I have a virus so I told him I'm not interested and hung up. Couple of hours later he calls back and tells me its urgent that I get to my computer so he can assist me, I asked how he got my information and he wouldn't answer however he does have my number, first and last name so I asked him for the company's number that I will call them back to help me because I can't confirm who he was and I would not be giving him any information until I get the number to call the company myself and he kept saying its urgent and he needs to help me so I told him if its that urgent why is he wasting time and not giving me the number I needed to call and get the help supposedly I needed and he disconnected on and hasn't called since.... be aware people and don't give out your information...
THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected-corrupted scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.
I got two calls from them in the last two weeks -- one at 11:30PM and just last night at 10:29PM. Both times it was a foreign-sounding woman claiming that there was a problem with my computer and my credit card account. Obviously a scam -- no credit card company is going to call you at that late hour. They would freeze your account until you called them. I yelled at her for calling so late and hung up on her. Don't these people have souls?
They threaten me, they call my phone honestly 6 times, and the last time they acted like they were doing an interrogation with LAPD....Hello I dont live in California....These foreigners seriously need to go scam their own kind and stay out of the USA. Just saying
Called tonite saying i qualified for a government grant to check-upgrade my furnace-air conditioning, once again wasted their time, told them i had just moved and gave them my new address at the local pub, hope to see them there tomorrow between 12-2 pm!!
