Right on Sir Belvedere: Only scammers and crooks will call "Do not call numbers". If you don't recognise the ID number, then do not answer the call. I am on "Do not call list", but I am also on my own "Do not answer". Good policy to follow....!!!!
I'm still curious, who is making money off these calls, and do we receive more of them during election cycles? My suspicion is yes, we do, and that our "real" numbers are sold to campaigns. I have found sites on line which have "xx million legitimate phone numbers/emails" for sale for low prices. I suppose the spammer company that has the MOST real phone numbers and the lowest price makes money that way - selling the lists to political campaigns and others who are not bound by the Do Not Call List. They say that all cell numbers will be released in the next month or so which means that dumping landlines may not be the solution. I would like us to be able tell Xfinity/Verizon that we can't deal with landlines anymore because of the spammers, but it's CHEAPER to include the landline in my tech bundle. Somehow there has to be a way to threaten those making money; jail time isn't part of the equation here. Most of the companies selling these numbers are offshore anyway.
Just called me and no message on VM. I see from this thread, the credit scammers are “rolling” thru numbers much quicker. Block it, and they just pop up on another number! Unfortunately our landline provider doesn’t support “simultaneous ring”, so we can’t use the popular blocking service.
I have a prepaid cell. My phone doesn't get these ridiculous calls. My landline received 13 unknown calls today, including this number. About to drop the landline, so I can stop these annoying calls. Hate them! *hope karma bites them HARD*
