Right on Sir Belvedere: Only scammers and crooks will call "Do not call numbers". If you don't recognise the ID number, then do not answer the call. I am on "Do not call list", but I am also on my own "Do not answer". Good policy to follow....!!!!
Besides most of these calls come from out of the country. We don't have control over what people do in foreign countries, nor can we go after them when they do it.
I'm not the same person as "Miss Sally" (on this forum). Just making sure you know this is not a duplicate comment.
I got a call during mid-afternoon today. I thought I had blocked all the numbers for these idiots. But of course, I guess that's a pipe-dream. So, this is a new number...first time I got a call from this number.
Of course, I can block the call. But at this rate, my space will run out before they run out of numbers.
I was watching "Days of Our Lives" last week. One scene had the phone ring and the woman had to walk across her apartment to answer. She was talking to one of the other pesky scammers...Life Alert or Med Alert or Senior-Something. I can't remember). She was "yelling" that she wasn't old and didn't need a free alert system. This is the 2nd time that soap opera has put these scammers into their plot. The first scammer they mentioned (months ago) was Racheal from you-know-who!!! If a Hollywood script has our scammers as part of their show/dialog, I think this is a much bigger problem than we realize. The entire English-speaking world, no doubt!
I also got a phone call today from my own number. (!!!) That's weird seeing your own phone number on your own caller I.D.
This scammer calls numbers on the national do not call registry in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. They further violate the TCPA by failing to have an operator on the line when the call is answered, and still further violate the TCPA by playing a recorded message without an operator on the line. Their scam is a debt consolidation offer. This is clearly a scam as when you do get to an operator, the operator further violates the TCPA by refusing to provide a physical address or phone number when asked, instead they argue that they do not have to comply with those regulations. As any legitimate business would gladly provide this information even if it weren't required by law, you can be assured that this is a scam. Do not provide this scammer with any personal or financial information.
