Same-thing Steve Martin called identified as US Treasury threatening to take me to a Grand Jury or Magistrate (Court) called three times within a few hours and said filed complaint with FTC. The number indicated it was from Woodlalnd Hills. Also called several other times with number shown as "unavailable"
I too got a voicemail from Steve Martin and then I called back and talked to James, his supervisor. Same story as the others here. Said that a case has been filed against me by the Treasury Dept for underpayment of my taxes. I told him this isn't how it works. First of all, I always file and always pay my taxes on time. I also have my taxes professionally prepared. If I had underpaid, I would have received a notice from the IRS about it, not a call from the Treasury Department. I told them that I was sure this was a scam and not to call me back.
3 recorded messages from them in 3 hours. I called back -- first 2 times got hung up on when I said I wanted them to take me off their list. 3rd time I played dumb--"Robert Jones" (sounded very much like Steve Martin) told me that I owed on 2009/2010 taxes and because I hadn't responded to documents sent to me, I was now being investigated for tax evasion. I suggested he just send the documents again to which he said that it was too late for that as the criminal investigation had already been started. Tried to find out from him why they were calling if it was already too late to pay up and the criminal investigation had begun. he had no answer. I thanked him for the information and hung up.
