There is something very fishy about these people. I just called them back on a different number 626-851-8253. I simply asked what court houses they worked with and she hung up on me.
I tried again and asked if they could call the inglewood courthouse with me on the phone and she hung up on me. These people are frauds.
I have been getting calls on and off over the past year. Everytime they have called I have sent them a fax with a reciept for the payment to the Inglewood courthouse. I keep asking them to confirm they recieved the fax but they will not call me back or fax me back.
These people must be frauds. I would not suggest giving them any information.
Okay weird call this morning. A man called me and I was still half asleep. He said he was calling regarding a car accident I got into earlier this year (which is true). He said that the bill is $1413 and he needs to know if Im willing to cooperate for not. I said I was. Weird thing is, the bill is $700 last I checked. True, I havent paid it but I havent got the money due to school and being recently unemployed. Also he wanted to verify my current address (which I just moved into less than a mos ago--no one knows this address), my phone number (which is a new cell# that only friends have), and knew that I was unemployed (I just quit my job last week!). He went on to say that i needed to call him withing 72 hours with a checking acct. number. I told him I dont have one and he started harassing me saying I should ask my friends or my family, but he needs to have at least $50 by then or they would put out a warrant for my arrest! F***ing ridiculous! But it gets weirder: when I asked for an address to mail payment he said I couldnt do that because it takes a month to process it and blabbed on about how it "takes a week to pass this department", and so on. The conversation finally ended with him telling me his name, which was "Mr. Hopper"!!!, and his phone:1-800-727-5848 ext. 3048. After googling it, I came upon this interesting forum. WTF????
I keep seeing this number on my telephone caller ID log. Operation Div. I think these people are criminals pretending to be from the courts. They are phishing for personal identification information, or to extract money out of a hapless victim. If they are for real they'd leave a message or send an actual letter to my address. None ever arrives.
If I have any doubts about an unpaid ticket or fine, I'll just drop by city hall in my county and verify that all tickets have been paid.
I keep getting daily calls from these people even after they verified that I'm NOT the person they're looking for. I called the phone company and discovered that my phone # was dormant more than two years before I got it in July 07. That means they're harassing me for someone else's bill that is at least 3 years old.
They are a company called GC Services and it comes up as "Operation Div" on caller ID. The number that comes up on called id is an outbound line only so it is busy when you try to call back. However, they can be reached at 800-727-5848.
The phone company said I can file harassment charges with the police and FCC if the calls persist, IF GC Services has no legitimate reason to call ME (as in I'm not the deadbeat they're looking for) AND I've asked them to stop calling. I can also file suit and seek damages. Additionally, I can have my # changed free of charge due to "annoyance calls". However, I don't want to change my # because of these idiots. I think I'll file the charges after the next call...I do have all of my caller ID records...
I recently got a paper letter from these folks claiming I owed them a bunch of money for unpaid traffic citations. When I called them, they correctly identified that I had an open citation, but refused (yes, literally refused) to document what the citation was, or that it had been turned over to them.
They also claim they had sent previous letters (clearly not true)and were acting on behalf of the court (if true, they should easily be able to send me a copy of the order).
When I told the woman I would not pay them anything without documentation, she hung up on me.
