I had this number appear on my account info 20 times since December (about 2 month). From what others here have said, I think it is a number that shows up from Rogers if someone calls, and you don't answer, telemarketer, friends, family etc. I recently activated my Voicemail, which I didn't know I had that option. I have never received an actual voicemail. It wasn't until I saw these charges on my account that I realised I was being charged for voicemails, but not even getting any voicemails.
I took the advice of others here, and dialed *611, then 3, and continued on the automated Rogers customer helps, to get my Voicemail Canceled. I think it wake option 4 on one of the menus. It asks if you are sure you want to cancel your voicemails and box, then to confirm. I was charged for 20 voicemails calls at .40 cents each, that's $8.00. Not happy. So, now I'm happier with not voicemail, that I don't miss anyway, and now I don't have to worry about getting charged again. I hope that makes sense and helps. Feb. 19, 2014
This phone number (647-278-9950) is for calls from your Rogers Voice Mail !
Whenever someone leaves a message for you, you see the above number on your Online Rogers account as (Voicemail received), but not the real caller ID of the left voicemail.
I have a Prepaid Rogers wireless (Pay as You Go), and my cell was off for almost 5 months. When I turned it on, I saw a numerous voice mail calls from the above number on my Rogers online account, and I was charged for every one of them. Then I blocked that number (since my cell was off for a long time, I could not see history of received calls and the caller IDs).
Now I am going to Un-Block that number (after blocking it).
I called Rogers and I asked for the caller IDs of the received voicemails (so I can block that/those), but Roger was not helpful at all; I was told that for privacy of the callers Roger cannot do that (or for profit of Rogers!)
I am trying to find another company instead of Rogers for my Prepaid account too.
I also have a Rogers prepaid cell phone. This number shows up in my call history as a voicemail received everytime another number--a telemarketing number--calls me. The strange thing is I never pick up the phone when the telemarketer (World Vital Records) calls, & they never leave a message, yet my call history shows "voicemail received" from this number & it costs me 31 cents. I'm not impressed with this. I have not called my own voicemail to check messages & there are no messages waiting, so why does the call history think I've connected with this number in any way? I haven't. It's never yet shown up on my actual phone.
I also have been receiving many calls to 647-278-9950 and billed by Rogers each time @ .40 cents. I have contacted Rogers and they told me that each time someone calls your pay-as-you-go cell numbers and it is not picked up after three rings it will trigger voice mail call even if the caller does not leave a message. The number recorded on your bill/activity is the Rogers "Voice Mail Box".
I think Rogers is just picking up some extra cash from those people who have their voice mail turned on.
The only way to avoid this charge is to turn off your voice mail. To do that you call *611 then 3 then 3 again and another final 3. Now the voice mail is turned off you you will not be charges again.
I have been away from Canada for a while and between February 6th and April 27th, I recieved over 50 calls to my voicemail with no messages left but I was charged $0.25 to recieve each one from Rogers.
