I had this number appear on my account info 20 times since December (about 2 month). From what others here have said, I think it is a number that shows up from Rogers if someone calls, and you don't answer, telemarketer, friends, family etc. I recently activated my Voicemail, which I didn't know I had that option. I have never received an actual voicemail. It wasn't until I saw these charges on my account that I realised I was being charged for voicemails, but not even getting any voicemails.
I took the advice of others here, and dialed *611, then 3, and continued on the automated Rogers customer helps, to get my Voicemail Canceled. I think it wake option 4 on one of the menus. It asks if you are sure you want to cancel your voicemails and box, then to confirm. I was charged for 20 voicemails calls at .40 cents each, that's $8.00. Not happy. So, now I'm happier with not voicemail, that I don't miss anyway, and now I don't have to worry about getting charged again. I hope that makes sense and helps. Feb. 19, 2014
I'm having the same problem with the 647-278-9950 number. I've spoken to several Rogers' employees who tell me there's nothing they can do. They suggest I remove the Voice Mail option - how stupid because then I won't be able to receive messages from family and friends - or change my phone number. Did you manage to solve your problem?
My husband and I are also receiving tons of these charges, something like $16 for the last 4 months. The CRTC, which usually governs radio, TV and telephone companies, says the competition among cell phone providers is competitive enough that, in short, if you don't like your provider get another one. BUT we can file complaints through Industry Canada's Office of Consumer Affairs (OCA). On the OCA website, it lists the steps to file a complaint. If enough of us express our outrage at this despicable (and possibly illegal???) practice, we could have it stopped.
