Use (AT&T) "CALL SCREENING":
Block up to 10 numbers, even the last number that called you and you don't know the phone number. The calling party will hear an automated message: "We're sorry, the party you are calling is not accepting this call. Thank you". Easy to use by hitting a few phone pad keys. You can review your list, add or delete numbers. I suggest you keep a 3x5 card or something to list your blocked numbers, date, etc. so you can delete older ones and make room for another idiot's number. This system also repeats the numbers you are adding, so even if you don't have caller i.d., you'll know the number you're blocking. I've used this option for years now and find it VERY useful. Hope this helps, and good luck.
I also suggest registering a complaint with the FTC at: https://www.donotcall.gov/
Also contact your phone service and see if they have CALL SCREENING available.
If you have AT&T (SBC)then my BEST suggestion to all of you folks, is to get their "CALL SCREENING" feature for a few bucks a month. With it you can BLOCK UP TO 10 NUMBERS just by punching a few phone keys... After a call to you: Push *60, then #01#...which BLOCKS THE LAST phone # that called you EVEN IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE NUMBER! This step works best for those '800 type' #'s. Or you can follow the automated instructions to enter a number, review what numbers are on your "LIST" or delete a number with "07" after hearing it from your List.
I've had this feature for several years and believe me, it's worth every penny if you get a lot of calls from the same annoying people over and over again. They may start using an alternate number, but just 'add' them to your list also.
Get some peace in your life! It's a shame to have to spend a few bucks to stop these calls, but it's better than listening to their crap, getting aggrevated and upsetting your day.
It also helps to write your BLOCKED NUMBERS down; I use a 3x5 index card with the date, who called, etc., so I can edit my LIST after a period of time, to make room for another idiots' number. Hope this helps you all."
