just got a call from the 716-923-7405 number. The lady was very polite but did not identify herself. Stated someone with my last name had used me as a reference. I didnt know the person. She gave me the name of his business. What she didnt know is I live in a "one horse" town and I know all the businesses. This one doesnt exist. She was still polite and stated she would have to call the guy back to confirm.
Someone from this number called and asked for me by my first name and my husband gave me the phone. The woman on the other end was very pleasant and said she was verifying a reference she received. The had my previous residence (the city) correct and asked if I knew this person. I said I'd never heard of them before and she asked if I knew of someone else, who I had never heard of either. She was very polite and said she'd take my number off her list. She never said what company she was working for, but this number came up on the caller id.
Called asking for information on my son. Told her I did not have any contact with him, which I don't, and not to call me any more. She called back immediately. I told her not to call again. Called a total of 5 times. Each time I told her not to call me again. Asked me to have my lawyer call their law office. Told her unless she was suing me, forget it. She said she would be forced send me a summons because my son had listed me as a reference 2 months ago, and since I had no contact with him, I would need to sign as affidavit to that effect, and that his action listing me as a reference would be fraud, bla, bla, bla. Typical bill collector tactics. These people are the scum of the earth. Don't waste any time with them.
2:15 PM today 08-28-07... Call from Joel Silver at Hoffman, Weinberg and O'Brien (believed to be at 1560 Harlem Road, Buffalo, NY 14206 alternate phone 716-597-0040) claiming that someone had left my wife and my name as a reference on an application and please call him back at 866-450-5702 extension 101. WE HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THIS IS ABOUT BUT ARE ON OUR GUARD.
post this info on other boards and call or email the judge, i am sure that it will not help their case.
