Have received calls from this number on several occasion say that they are with Windows. THIS IS A SCAM. They try to gain remote access of your computer to hack your information. They tell you that they are getting error reports from your computer and need remote access to fix it. DON'T DO IT. Windows is a Microsoft product and; after a chat with Microsoft corporate; understand they Microsoft will NEVER INITIATE contact with you unless you specifically request contact. BLOCK THIS NUMBER! Also they have called back within minutes with a call that has no caller ID. It's the same demons.
I've found the perfect way to deal with this type of scam, and I used it on this number. After receiving several similar calls I decided to look up information for my closest FBI Field Office. I found the number for the cyber-crimes division. When the scammers call, I tell them that my battery is about to die and ask them to call me right back on my home phone. Then, I give them the FBI number. It usually takes 6 months to a year before I start getting calls again.
We use the same number for both our home phone and fax machine, so when the call came in, I pressed the answer for the fax machine. I hope he got an ear full of weird noises. That was fun
Answering these calls or "playing" with these people (for laughs) is not the solution to the problem. If you respond, they now know they have a viable number and will sell it to other scammers. Also, if call has been forwarded from another country (India, for example), you could be charged for an overseas call. PLEASE do not answer unrecognizable area codes or numbers; just ignore and block.
I don't answer unkown calls I disconnected my answering machine some time ago so all unanswered calls fo to my fax machine It does seem to limit the number of scam calls
