i received this same kind of call today at my home (new jersey.. Luckily we were not at home & it go to voice mail. When I searched this number on the web, I got this link. Thank goodness, I understand now.Mr.John Smith (calling from Criminal investigation) with heavy indian action.
Caller: State Deportart (NY)
Be aware. Someone is calling from this number claiming to be with the NYPD criminal division. Said he was following up on criminal complaints. This is a scam. They will ask you with personal info. Caller has a heavey "Indian" accent and claims to be Detective John Smith from the criminal division. I reported to my local law enforcement who will be following up on this scam.
I also received a call from this guy. Unfortunately for him he had played a similar trick on many others. I asked him to bring me a court order and he then just got angry and told me that he would get me arrested in 30 mins and hung up.
Is there any way to shut these people up forever? They are just a nuisance to the society.
I just got a phone call from this number too, saying he was Detective Jones Smith, and he is from Crime Branch NYPD. I called the number back , and got a voice mail saying the party at extension 3000 is not available, so looks like it is a scam, beware do not call or give any information to this guy.
Live in NJ and got a call that they have a arrest warrant for not paying taxes. They were not picking up for a while after that when I tried calling back, now they are back to scamming again, got hold of them and a gave them piece of my mind.
Reported this to local police.
