i received this same kind of call today at my home (new jersey.. Luckily we were not at home & it go to voice mail. When I searched this number on the web, I got this link. Thank goodness, I understand now.Mr.John Smith (calling from Criminal investigation) with heavy indian action.

I reported these [***] to the FBI - I recommend each of you to submit a tip to FBI, and if they get enough tips about these mo-fo's FBI just might go after them.

Local police will not investigate such cases, it falls outside their Jurisdiction. I strongly suggest each of you to submit your tip/story to FBI, and remember to include their Phone number.
FYI - I found more phone number that these Guys are using, so beware of them.
I got call from 718-989-4671 number 9:51 AM this morning (03/14/2013). He claimed FBI will contact me as there is a criminal case against me. I told him it is a crank call. He said I will be arrested soon.
I need to report this phone number to police department, do not know how to, this person needs to be arrested. He had pure american accent.
I received a same call and they were asking me personal information. I wish we could really do something about them. Smith called me several times and was being really rude. THanks to this website I found out that it was just a prank.
I received a call from a female who said she is calling from Crime Branch Investigation and that my father-in-law has IRS looking for him. They said he owes taxes and they sent 3 legal notices to my old house. They said to resolve the issue now or he will be arrested. I insisted that they send information in writing so i know what the violations are. She said they sent 3 notices already so they wont send it again. I said why would you send notices to my old house if i file taxes with new address. She said give me your new address so I did and then she goes i am not sending any notices but I am sending police to have him arrested. I said fine go ahead send the police i want to see what is on the arrest warrant. I then called the # from the caller id and some guy picked up the phone. I asked who is this and where am i calling. The guy babbled something and hung up the phone.
Please be advised and smart to not give any personal information or any money to anyone on the phone.
