i received this same kind of call today at my home (new jersey.. Luckily we were not at home & it go to voice mail. When I searched this number on the web, I got this link. Thank goodness, I understand now.Mr.John Smith (calling from Criminal investigation) with heavy indian action.

I got this call today from 718 989 4621. It was a heavily accented Indian voice of John Smith who put me on hold for 5 mins only to return later as Max Wilson again heavily accented Indian voice. Said he was an officer of National Bureau of crime investigation. United States Govt. There are legal proceedings against me under section number 82. He aslo said this conversation was being recorded and heard by three attorneys. When I asked to explain the charge he said I had an outstanding debt pending to the government. This unpaid debt suddenly changed to unpaid tax dues while he was talking. When I confronted about this anomaly, Max Wilson suddenly disconnected the line or maybe it was because I said that I will not divulge any information about myself unti I know all the charges.
Oh what a pity. I was just beginning to enjoy this conversation. Maybe next time I will get to ask him how much he makes by the scam!
A lady with Spanish(?) accent left a message suggesting some one is using my name to claim credit She identified herself as from the Staten Island Identity Fraud division. In her voice message no threats were used but said very politely that it is in my interest that I return her call.
I received a call from this number 718-989-4671 suggesting that i'm part of a identity theft and she wanted me to call her ASAP else she'll start a legal case against me.. what a shame these people are.
Number showed up on caller ID as STATEN ISLAND, NY. First guy talked as agent John Smith and spoke in English with weird accent. Said I have not paid my taxes since 2009 and there is a court order for my arrest, but he can make it go away if I pay $3780. I asked for interpreter and he said ok just a minute. But the same guy starts talking in Hindi. Such a stupid scammer..thinks I cannot figure out that it;s the same guy. When I question him who he is and his official title, he starts screaming saying you don't understand how big trouble you are into? there will be police on your doorstep to arrest you in 30 minutes if you don't settle this matter with money. I said fine I'll pay. He tells me to get a prepaid debit card from CVS and give him the number of that card. I laughed saying oh wow, since when does the court accepts debit gift cards as a form of payment? He got angry and starts yelling "now you will see there will be cops coming to arrest you in 30 minutes." Such a dumb scammer even by the standards of scammers.
