They do not need to call my home after 9:00 at night. I find it hard to be nice to the "student" who: wakes my children three nights in a row with a post 9:30 pm phone call and who tells me that because they are a non-profit they can call my home at whatever time they choose.
Furthermore, I gave my annual donation already and don't appreciate repeated phone calls asking for more money.
I understand that the budget has been cut a lot. But on the other hand, do you think the professor are "over-paid" at the same time or lots of money had been wasted? Rutgers is a teaching-research university, but lots of professors only focus on research rather than teaching, check out their teaching schedule, most of professors maybe only teach one or two courses per semeter, which means 6 hours per week?. at same time, they like to spend thousands of dollars to hire adju-professor to teach. Being a student i did not feel I got what I paid. So do you use it to raise fund.
WOW! So I'm not the only one annoyed by these phone calls.
Here is what I have to say about the fundraising...it's true the University, along with other state institutions, are having issues with fundaing. I would also beg that if you do answer the phone that you aren't too rude to the student (yes, they really are students) on the other end trying to solicit funds. Like many of the campus jobs, they are working in shifts and cannot help when they are calling. If you don't designate on your university alumni profile of a good time to call, they'll call whenever. So, work that out with the alumni office or online.
I read above that someone had an issue with where the money goes - I couldn't agree with you more. I am a former, scholarship student-athlete (gymnastics) and let me tell you I,too, don't want to donate becuase I fear RU football will benefit. Shoot they are still paying out to Coach Shae. Let them dig themselves out of that hole. But oh how wonderful the RU system is...you can designate where you want your funds to go. I made the Alumni Office send me a letter confirming we have a choice just so I could hold them to it. So please don't give because you fear RU football will get it. I am a strong supporter of all sports program except football and make it clear when I donate - online of course. This is also true if you donate academically - as an alumni you can ask for an accounting of where your money goes - literally (yes, I've done that too).
Rutgers asking for money. There's no reason for them to stop calling - they are not subject to do-not-call lists. I wonder how much of the money actually goes to students and how much to "fund raising"?/
