If your [bank/credit union/credit card company] has detected suspicious activity on your account, they are NOT going to call you on the phone! They will simply refuse to honor your card and then wait for YOU to call THEM!!
Think about it!
You go to the store or you go on line to buy something and your card is denied. What will you do? You will flip the card over and call the 800 number on the back of the card. The person who answers will ask you a few questions to verify you are the real card holder (and the answers will not be anything on the card or anything likely to be in your wallet which might have been stolen). You may need to make the call from your home telephone so they can see YOUR CID.
If there has been improper use of your card, they are going to cancel the card and mail you a new one at your request.
They will NEVER, EVER call you from an automatic system and have a voice like R2D2 ask you to enter your sixteen digit account number.
These calls are ALWAYS SCAMS -- attempts to obtain information which can be used to bilk someone of money! You become that someone as soon as you enter your card number!
This is a scam. If you ever get a call purporting to be from a bank and asking you to verify information over the phone, DO NOT answer / call the number. Go to your bank's website or use one of your bank statements to find their customer help line and call your bank directly.
Wilson, call your bank ASAP and tell them what happened and ask them to freeze your card. If you are lucky you'll still have some money left.
Received call at 11:44 pm, didn't answer because I did not recognize number. Looked up number on web and found this page. Called number back and got busy signal.
