Called, didn't answer.  I've received calls from these people before as well as a text message.  They call on my cell phone to tell me my debit card (or my wifes debit card) has been suspended due to "security reasons".  My bank (Credit Union) does not have my cell phone number.  Of course the caller or message asks for your card number (if it's suspended they already know the number) and the pin.  No legitimate caller ever asks for your pin.  It's easy to get in a "panic mode" when this happens, but that's what these jackals count on.

The problem often exists that the owner of this number may be a legitimate organization whose number has been spoofed by the phisher. Think about it: If YOU were going to call me and try to get me to give you my credit card info so that you could charge things to my account and get cash advances from my account, would you call from your home phone and tell me your real name and address? Of course not! You would call from a pay phone and tell me your name was Hornsch Schmedely from East Jibbip, Missouri.  The CID (caller-id) info is sent by the caller's telephone company central office. It is not mandatory. So, you would go to some place that had a telco which did not provide CID and you would install a device that would transmit the CID code of your choosing. People who report this number to the "authorities" are simply sending the authorities on a wild goose chase because the number displayed is almost always "spoofed." Reporting the number to a repository like this one is much more useful because it allows others to see the likely nature of the call displayed on their CID record while they were away.

PEOPLE! PEOPLE! PEOPLE! Pay attention!

If your [bank/credit union/credit card company] has detected suspicious activity on your account, they are NOT going to call you on the phone! They will simply refuse to honor your card and then wait for YOU to call THEM!!

Think about it!

You go to the store or you go on line to buy something and your card is denied. What will you do?  You will flip the card over and call the 800 number on the back of the card. The person who answers will ask you a few questions to verify you are the real card holder (and the answers will not be anything on the card or anything likely to be in your wallet which might have been stolen). You may need to make the call from your home telephone so they can see YOUR CID.

If there has been improper use of your card, they are going to cancel the card and mail you a new one at your request.

They will NEVER, EVER call you from an automatic system and have a voice like R2D2 ask you to enter your sixteen digit account number.

These calls are ALWAYS SCAMS -- attempts to obtain information which can be used to bilk someone of money! You become that someone as soon as you enter your card number!
