If your [bank/credit union/credit card company] has detected suspicious activity on your account, they are NOT going to call you on the phone! They will simply refuse to honor your card and then wait for YOU to call THEM!!
Think about it!
You go to the store or you go on line to buy something and your card is denied. What will you do? You will flip the card over and call the 800 number on the back of the card. The person who answers will ask you a few questions to verify you are the real card holder (and the answers will not be anything on the card or anything likely to be in your wallet which might have been stolen). You may need to make the call from your home telephone so they can see YOUR CID.
If there has been improper use of your card, they are going to cancel the card and mail you a new one at your request.
They will NEVER, EVER call you from an automatic system and have a voice like R2D2 ask you to enter your sixteen digit account number.
These calls are ALWAYS SCAMS -- attempts to obtain information which can be used to bilk someone of money! You become that someone as soon as you enter your card number!
Received a call at 5:30 AM. I did not answer and there was no message left. I guess they think if they can catch you when you are not fully awake, you will give them the info.
I received a call from 734-513-7707 on my cell phone at 4:08 am on 4-14-09 and 3:47 am on 4-27-09. I didn't answer it because I was sleeping. I googled the number once I got up and I found this site. I would beware of any calls that come between the hours of 9:00 pm and 6:00 am.
