If your [bank/credit union/credit card company] has detected suspicious activity on your account, they are NOT going to call you on the phone! They will simply refuse to honor your card and then wait for YOU to call THEM!!
Think about it!
You go to the store or you go on line to buy something and your card is denied. What will you do? You will flip the card over and call the 800 number on the back of the card. The person who answers will ask you a few questions to verify you are the real card holder (and the answers will not be anything on the card or anything likely to be in your wallet which might have been stolen). You may need to make the call from your home telephone so they can see YOUR CID.
If there has been improper use of your card, they are going to cancel the card and mail you a new one at your request.
They will NEVER, EVER call you from an automatic system and have a voice like R2D2 ask you to enter your sixteen digit account number.
These calls are ALWAYS SCAMS -- attempts to obtain information which can be used to bilk someone of money! You become that someone as soon as you enter your card number!
We received 3 calls, one was 'Private Caller', the second one at 9:54 pm from W WNET was 734-513-7707 and third was 'Out of Area'. The automated recording was from Super U Credit Union (which does not exist) and it said that our card had been suspended due to a third party getting access to it and to press 1 to be connected to their security department. The 2nd call we decided to see how far this would go and entered numbers 1 thru 16 as our card number, it then asked for the expiration date AND pin number. Once they had all the information, the recording said we were ok to use our card. I called the Better Business Bureau and found out this number used to be associated with a company out of Michigan and to contact the Michigan BBB to report this.
I did check our account immediately and it was as it should be.
I got this call also. I entered a totally bogus card number and exp. date. The recording said my card was now available for use. Hope they have fun trying to charge stuff on the bogus card number!!!!
my friend, brother and sister n law received these calls also. We are from WV and they were saying that the same things about their accounts at Traders Bank in Spencer WV. What state are you from? I was wondering if you are from WV or did they call all over the world?
Got a call from 734-513-7707 this morning at the same time my wife received a call from 666-666-6666. They were both the security scam. I'm in Virginia, in case anyone is tracking this thing nationally.
