Phone # is a Scam I work for a billing company for a large number of facilities & hospitals. I received a call from this phone #, from "Torrence", who said he is with Optum Care from Phone # 763-367-9402 which said "Unavailable" on Caller ID (when most if not all Ins Companies call us, it says the name of their company on ID). He said call may be recorded, & needs me to confirm our Tax ID # before he can give any info. He said he could not give us any of the patient's info or anything at all until we confirm the Tax ID #, per HIPAAA. I've been doing this a long time, and told him that is very bizarre & never heard of that. I asked if he has our Tax ID #, he said yes, but can not give it to us, we have to tell him what it is to confirm who we are, per HIPAA. I asked how he got our number, he said from patient’s statement……I told him I literally do not know who you are or where you are calling from as the ID says Unavailable & do not recognize your area code. He said he is in Phoenix, Arizona. Most if not all area codes there are 480, 602, or 623. this is 763. I let him know unless he verifies who he is & who the patient is, I can not give him any info like that. He said he can give us their phone # and ref # to call him back.... I let him know we should have the Phone # on the patient's acct if we need to call them for anything so that is not necessary (who knows what phone # he would be giving me, but we have Phone # for Optum Care and that is the one we would call, which is either a 623 area code or 866 / 800 #). Per research, this area code is from Minnesota, and several review this phone # is a scam. Glad I did not give any of our info to him, so be aware. Better to be safe than sorry. If we need something, we can call them. I've done this for almost 3 years & knew right away something was wrong.
They call said they were from United Healthcare. Then asked me for my birthday and address. To personal right out the gate with no explanation so i hung up
Totally legit call from United Healthcare regarding recent medical issues. This is the outgoing number, they gave me a different number to call back. All she asked was patient's birthdate to confirm she was talking to the right person.
Received a call from 763-367-9402 on 6/15/2017 at 1:58 PM, the CNAM read as "Unavailable." I did not answer and they did not leave a message. If this is indeed United Healthcare, then they should identify themselves as such. I fail to see how caller name ID of "UHC" would be in violation of HIPAA.
