I'm up to 7 calls from this # today, at my work number. I'm no longer even bothering to pick up (I was leaving the receiver on my desk, not saying anything, till he hung up). How fun! (Sarcasm)
This appears to be a scam of some sort. They do seem to keep track of whom they are calling. So rather than seeming to be a bored operator playing a prank, a scam is suspect.
There is no way you can stop the calls, and making complaints to local government is equally as pointless. These calls likely originate in a call center somewhere, if I were a betting man I'd say India or Pakistan. The number that is displayed on your device is false, in fact with the right equipment software you can make it appear your calling from anywhere. I'm actually surprised they keep with the same number, makes searching for it online easy.
If you want to strike back at these guys, wasting their time and stringing them along is your best bet. I've done a pretty exhaustive search on what the tactics are. No one has reporting more than just annoying calls and the fact they have your name.
If it is a scam, the idea is to con someone out of giving them something of value. Generally most people tend to think of credit card numbers and such, but identity theft is also plausible. They may also seek information about a company's inner workings to further their goal in fraud.
If they seem legit and your not sure, ask for a number to call them back and a company name. From most peoples experience they will just hang up on you.
Now, I wait for them to call again.. going to toy with them.
A man called my place of work, gave a name of someone who no longer works here. When I was answering a question that he asked me he hung up on me. This is extremely rude and I still don't know what or who he wanted. But I will definitely not be calling back! That is just not polite behavior!
I also received a call today at work from 856-204-0652 on my direct line from this same middle eastern male with a lot of background noise. Asked my name three times and then hung up when I confirmed. Has anyone figured out why he is calling?
Called asking for an employee. When told they were not available and asked the purpose of the call we received very evasive answers, was told that this was a "charge back call" (whatever that is), and they kept asking if this was the main number for the companyor the main switchboard.
Heavy accent, most likely from India, and very poor call quality (another Voip number used to try and scam people).
received two calls in a row asking for the same person located in a different office. The second time (after I gave them the proper number to call) they asked how old I was - my response being "EXCUSE ME?!". He repeated the question, to which I asked him how that was relevent to the call. He told me he was calling from Bank of America and thought my voice was beautiful and he loved it - hung up on the creep.
