Portfolio called cell on twice on 04-17-16 at 09:46 a.m. and 4:08 p.m. PDT. caller ID shows Boone County, KY, no name.
Portfolio is notorious for cold calling people and accusing them of owing money in an attempt to illegally collect on a nonexistent debt.
If you receive many calls from Portfolio Recovery, check the internet for attorneys who specialize in suing debt collectors. A friend of mine in California did so, and received about $2,000 in statutory damages. It was a contingency case so he didn't have to pay anything up front. Keep copies of cell phone screen shots and keep a log of all calls and messages received.
According to BigA on this post, a woman sued Portfolio and obtained a $83 million judgment. I searched the internet and found these links:
Portfolio said that they were going to appeal that verdict, and I am not sure where they are with that. It would probably crush them is they end up paying that much out. Their revenues have already taken a hit from what I heard.
I've seen this number appear on my home phone numerous times a day for several weeks. Recently I forward my home number to my cell. The call was from a Portfolio Recovery. I've advised the callers that the person they are looking for does not reside at my residence. They continue to call even after I've warned them to stop calling. They stop for about a week then the calls continue again. How can I get them to stop calling for someone who does not even live in my household? This is extremely annoying especially when I look at my caller id and not only see the number one but anywhere from 4-6 times daily.

I talked to an FDCPA attorney who told me I could obtain $500 in damages for each unwanted call from Portfolio Recovery, but that I would have to notify them beforehand that I don’t want them to call me. You might also want to contact an attorney.
The attorney I spoke to was at Krohn & Moss 323-988-2400 (Los Angeles, California).
