YES... I.e.: if you are on the national DNC registry, and an automated telemarketer keeps calling you, the best thing to do is have the state att'y general mail them a letter, and eventually this will actually scare them enough to stop calling.
Just got a call (7/15 @10:00 a.m.). They have called me numerous times. Unfortunately I picked up once while I was driving. Now I just let it ring. They even call my daughter's cell phone. Please make them stop!
I received a call on my verizon cell phone at 10:30am EST on 7/15. Waited on hold after hitting 1 (probably big mistake - but I wanted to try to get more information). Definitely auto warranty scam. The person identified the company as Extended Auto Services (real original). When asked who underwrites their insurance services he was at a loss. Asked that they remove my number - but I doubt that will happen.
Received a call from 860-216-2292 answered, I have got this call in spanish and english and I couldnt really understand the spanish but later i found out it is the same scam. So I pushed 1 on the seconded call because it was in english. The guy instantly asked me the make and model of my car and i responded by yea i would to take my number off your call list. He then hung up on me. This guy is spoffing caller ID, so their is really no way to trace it from the end users perspective. If I get another call from this organization I am going to play along with their game and see how much information I can get out of them.
Several prerecorded voicemails were left before I finally answered this number. When I pressed 1, I waited about 8 rings and then a woman picked up simply asking, "make and model?" I started telling her that this company has "the wrong number and that I'd like to be taken off the list." She hung up on me immediately after I said "wrong number."
1st clue it's a scam: the fact that she did not mention a company name.
2nd clue: she immediately hung up without apologizing or verifying the number.
