Called numerous times on previous days. Called this a.m. @ 8 a.m. & tried to reject number only to find out its a landline and for an extra charge my cell phone carrover would block the call for me. He called back a little later and I got the same spiel as everyone else. Finally got him to stop.talking long enough to tell him NOT to call me again. He said "Ok" and HE hung up on me!! Will 'watch' and see if he calls again..
This morning they called and went to our recorder. He said "hello, hello" and hung up.
It was obviously a call center. We NEVER answer a call if we do not know who it is. Cannot tell by area code as it can be your area code but be from overseas.
They must be getting some business or this type of call would cease.
Got call from someone claiming to be technical support for windows. Foreign accent...knew my name.... Then he proceeded to tell me that my accounts - twitter, Facebook, etc. were being hacked...and that I would have to pay because they were able to get my personal information. HUH? When I asked the name of his company, he just kept saying windows support. When I asked where he was calling from, he again said windows support, and went on to tell me to turn on my computer and a tech would walk me through steps to safeguard my info. As I was on my landline, I decided to call his number on my cell. Low and behold...it rang and an automated voice said the number had been disconnected. When I asked how come you can call me...but when I try calling your number I get a voice telling me "your" number is disconnected. He gave me some lame excuse that started out with..."we have thousands of customers...." I stopped listening, told him I had to leave on an errand and asked for a call back number. The number he gave me: 877-288-7770... which turned out to be (maybe) some gas company in California. OMG!! I signed up with Spokeo. I called them for some clarification, as I couldn't find anything up that said whether or not this number was trustworthy. The very understanding young lady, Maggie at Spokeo that assisted me, went on line with the original 904 number and read info related to this number..... Thanks to her I was lead to this page. Number is a definite SCAM.... Scary stuff!!!
A lot of the times, the numbers appearing in caller id are spoofed (fake). From what I've gathered from my time here, it's supposedly very easy to do if you know how.
As a possible example, our office received a couple of calls several months ago form someone wishing to speak to us with a caller id purportedly from some giant restaurant franchise. An internet search on the number I did after the calls suggested it really belonged to a bail bond place in California! If the callers ever call back, I'd love to ask them why a restaurant franchise shares its number with a bail bond place. Maybe they figure you can get free food with your bail bonds to go.
Back on topic, the fact these callers spoof their numbers make it easier for me to block numbers supposedly from other states. Most people that I know and interact with know how to get hold of me without calling me anyways.
